Tui Na massage, along with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, is one of the main components of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The term Tui Na (pronounced “twee naw”), which literally means “pinch and pull,” refers to a wide range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapeutic massage and body work. Tui Na massage can be used as an alternative to acupuncture. It uses a variety or massage techniques from very light to very strong.
Tui Na massage can be used all over the body or can target specific areas such as the face, the head or the feet only if required. It can relieve multiple disorders. It is very good for musculoskeletal problems such as general neck or back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, etc. But it is also very effective for internal problems such as gynecological, digestive, respiratory or even for emotional issues.
Tui Na is not generally used for pleasure and relaxation, but rather as a treatment to address specific patterns of disharmony. However, I have many patients who find it extremely relaxing. I get consistent good feedback! Please see some of the testimonials.
Cupping and Gua Sha (a kind of skin scrapping technique – sounds worst than it is!) may also be used to strongly invigorate blood flow, eliminate toxins and stop pain. Again, this is very effective for musculoskeletal issues but I have also used this method very effectively for internal disorders such as IBS and ulcerative colitis.
